Hong Kong's sports fever continues with not only the 15th National Games igniting the city's passion for sports, but also the annual SHK PPT Hong Kong Cyclothon, the city's largest cycling event organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), taking place on 30 November (Sunday). This year, the event will once again feature the popular non-competitive rides, including the 50km ride that takes cyclists through 'Four Tunnels and Three Bridges', and the 32km ride covering 'Two Tunnels and Two Bridges'. Together, these rides have attracted over 6,000 local, mainland and overseas cyclists to join and experience the joy of riding.
To share the joy with the community, HKTB will hold a carnival at the Great Lawn of West Kowloon Cultural District Art Park on the same day. Members of the public and visitors are welcome to join this free admission event, offering a full day of fun with food and beverage, sports entertainment performances, a sports equipment market, diverse sports trial experiences and workshops. There will also be booths offering exclusive gifts for cyclists upon presentation of their race bibs or coupons after the ride. Before the ride, don't forget to take photos with your friends and family at the giant bicycle installation in the centre of the venue and immerse yourself in the excitement of the Cyclothon!
4 'Diverse Sports Trial Experiences' to Encourage the City to Get Active Free Trial of Emerging and Unique Sports
Riding on the sports fever generated by the 15th National Games, the Hong Kong Cyclothon Carnival will feature a zone dedicated to diverse sports trial experiences, offering everyone a chance to try out four emerging and unique sports that are taking the world by storm. These include 'Padel', a mix of tennis and squash played with a glass wall; 'Lacrosse', a fast-paced team sport played with a long-handled stick with a net pocket; 'High Wheel Bicycle', the world's first mechanically-propelled bicycle that was popular in 19th-century Britain and Europe; and a 'Fitness and Relaxation Workshop' that combines stretching and Zumba dance. Equipment and professional guidance will be provided on-site, making it easy for beginners to try out these new sports. Don't miss this opportunity to sweat it out and try something new!
Introduction to the 4 Diverse Sports Trial Experiences
Padel
Padel is a popular sport in Europe and America that combines elements of tennis and squash. It is played on a court surrounded by glass walls that allow players to bounce the ball off them. Padel is not physically demanding and is easy to learn, making it a great choice for a group of friends looking to try something new and exciting.
Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a striking and highly-skilled team sport that is played with a long-handled stick with a net pocket. Players need to master techniques for passing, catching and carrying the ball, and can even strike their opponents' sticks. It is a physically demanding sport that requires teamwork to score goals, so gather your friends and take on the challenge!
High Wheel Bicycle
High Wheel Bicycles, also known for their large front wheel and small back wheel, were popular in 19th-century Britain and Europe. They are the world's first mechanically-propelled bicycles and are known for their unique and striking design, with front wheel diameters of 40 to 60 inches. Come and experience the charm of this 'vintage' sport by challenging your balance and skills, just like the gentlemen and ladies of the Victorian era.
Fitness and Relaxation Workshop
Combining sports with technology is a trending concept. Coaches from the fitness app KEEP will guide participants through a 'fast and slow' workout experience, starting with a stretching workshop in the morning to help relax the body, followed by an energising Zumba dance workshop in the afternoon, where participants can move to the rhythm of passionate Latin music and experience the fusion of Zumba, fitness moves and Latin dance.
